Weekly Activities
May 18 - 22

For your journals:  Now that we are in the last week of school, write about how you feel not having been in school since March!  Are you looking forward to getting back to school in August?  Do you feel bad if you missed out on a sports season or other school activity this spring?  What are you most looking forward to doing when businesses and activities are able to open back up?  How do you feel about wearing a mask when you go somewhere?

We have lots to talk about on our last Zoom sessions this week!

Here is another good website for learning about careers.  This is considered one of the best websites for this!  Take the Interest assessment and see what results you get!  Also, put in any career you are interested in the search box and see what you can find out!

Read the story "The Shattered Sky", about the biggest non-nuclear explosion ever. You can choose to have it read aloud if you want.  Watch the video at the end.  It has more great information.  You can also choose to listen to the vocabulary words!

May 11 - 15

Talk to your parents and other adult family members about their jobs.  Find out how they chose the job they do.  What do they like and not like about their job?  What did they want to do when they were your age?  What are the duties and responsibility of their jobs?  Take time to compare what you learn about these jobs with what you think you might like to do.

Here is a site with several "games" that will help you learn about managing your money.  Scroll down to the ones for junior high and school.  Take some time to try them out.  Let me know on Zoom which ones you liked and what you learned.

May 4 - 8

Let's do some cooking this week!  There are lots of easy and yummy recipes you can try out on this website.  Try at least one this week and surprise your family while working on independent living skills!

Since cooking is a theme this week:  if you are nervous to try a new recipe out - ask your mom or dad or any family member to teach you to cook something you don't know how to make.  And try to help out with at least one household chore.  Learn how to run the washer or dryer or any other appliance you don't know how to use yet.  These are skills you will need when you live on your own!

This week, let's review exponents!  Work a few problems on the worksheet below and let's see if you remember how to do them.  There are some examples at the top of the page.  We can go over them on Zoom!

April 27-May 1

Keep adding to your journal.  A lot has happened in our community this week.  How has this effected you and your family?  A journal is a great way to get our feelings out.

Here is a great website for checking out careers!  Click on the link and you will see a list of careers.  Click on the career area of you choice and a list of jobs appears.  Click on a job and you can watch a video about that job.  Watch at list 2 videos and tell me about it on our next Zoom meeting!

April 20-24

Keep adding to or start your journal (see last week's activities).  I know some of you do not like writing, so you could start a drawing journal.  Draw what you feeling as we work our way through this.  Remember you can do a journal on paper or on your phone/computer.

Here is a website with several videos you can watch for Mastering Your Soft Skills for Workplace Success.  There are several short ones to choose from.  Challenge yourself to watch one that you think is your weakest area or that you know the least about.  I'd love to hear what you learned at our next Zoom meeting.

April 13-17:

Start a journal.  Try to write at least 3 complete sentences a day about how you and your family are adjusting to being home every day.  What things are you doing to keep busy, what challenges are you having, and what are some good things about being home?  We can share our experiences at our Zoom meetings!
